Anharmonic Studio is open source. Explore the code, build the app yourself, and make it your own. The source is free under GPL-3.0-or-later. Source builds are intended for developers who maintain their own toolchain and dependencies.
Prefer to start with an installer? Official Linux, Windows, and macOS downloads help fund development. You pay for the convenience of a prepared build and access to updates. Official released builds are the supported distribution for musicians. We do not provide installation or configuration troubleshooting for self-compiled copies. The code stays free, and your installed studio keeps working.

Why pay if the source code is free?
Developers can build the full application themselves for free using the complete source and build scripts. Official downloads cover the convenience of prepared packages, access to releases, and support for continued development. Payment does not change the application’s GPL license.
Do you support self-built copies?
Source builds are for developers maintaining their own compiler, dependencies, and audio configuration. Installation and configuration troubleshooting for self-compiled copies is not provided. Official released binaries are the supported distribution. Reproducible application bug reports and patches are welcome from everyone.
Which operating systems are included?
The official downloads cover Linux x86_64, Windows x86_64, Intel Macs, and Apple Silicon Macs. Each uses the same core studio. Window styling, file dialogs, and font rendering can differ by operating system.
What updates will my payment include?
The standard download costs $1 USD once and includes the current major version and its updates. The planned supporter option will include the next major version and its updates; it is not open yet. Final purchase details will be shown at checkout before payment.
Do I need to keep paying?
No. The standard download is a one-time $1 USD purchase. Your installed version keeps working; there are no recurring payments.
Does a donation include an installer?
No. Donations are separate contributions toward development. To receive official downloads, choose the standard $1 download. You can always get the source code for free.
Can I buy an official download today?
Yes. The standard $1 USD download is open, plus applicable tax at Stripe checkout. Choose your computer above; its installer starts after payment confirmation. These are unsigned release candidates. The complete source remains free on GitHub.
How do I install an unsigned download?
Download only through our official checkout confirmation page. Its SHA-256 checksum lets you check that the file matches the published download; a matching checksum does not certify that software is safe.
To calculate the checksum, use PowerShell Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 -LiteralPath "installer.exe" on Windows, Terminal shasum -a 256 "installer.dmg" on Mac, or sha256sum "installer.tar.gz" on Linux. Replace the example filename with your exact download and compare the entire hash with the download page. If it differs, do not install.
Windows: Open the setup EXE. If SmartScreen identifies it as unrecognized, review the file and its source. On computers that permit it, “More info” may offer “Run anyway” if you choose to trust this download. An “Unknown publisher” prompt is expected for our unsigned installer. If that option is unavailable, your device policy may block installation. Microsoft explains these warnings and restrictions.
Mac: Choose Apple Silicon or Intel to match your Mac, open the DMG, and copy the app to Applications. Try opening it once. If macOS blocks it because the developer cannot be verified, and you choose to trust this download, check System Settings → Privacy & Security for “Open Anyway.” The option may be unavailable on managed computers. Follow Apple’s instructions for your macOS version.
Linux: Extract the entire tar.gz archive into a new folder and keep the app with its bundled files. From that folder run ./AnharmonicStudio, or ./AnharmonicStudio --install for per-user installation without sudo. You still need compatible Linux system libraries and working graphics/audio drivers.
Do not disable antivirus or system-wide security protections to install the app. A malware, damaged-file, or tampering alert is different from an unidentified-publisher warning: stop and email anharmoniclabs@gmail.com. Do not post payment references or private information in a public issue.
Does the studio need an internet connection?
The core studio runs locally after installation. Optional neural stem separation is a separate source setup with extra dependencies and an initial model download; it is not included in these release candidates.
What is your privacy policy?
Privacy Statement: Anharmonic Labs respects your privacy. We do not track users, run behavioral advertising scripts, or sell personal data.
Website & Web Studio: This website is hosted on GitHub Pages. The Web Studio runs entirely locally inside your browser using the Web Audio API and local browser storage (IndexedDB/LocalStorage). Your audio recordings, samples, and session projects remain on your machine and are never transmitted to external servers.
Desktop Application: The desktop app operates locally on your computer and does not collect, record, or transmit telemetry or usage metrics.
Purchases & Payment Processing: Payments for official downloads are processed directly by Stripe in accordance with Stripe’s Privacy Policy. We do not collect or store financial or credit card information. Purchase confirmation tokens are processed securely via Cloudflare Workers strictly for installer delivery and verification.
